What Makes The World Go 'Round?

Why do we walk through a grocery store and not greet strangers with a smile?

Why do we pretend not to see people from class when we pass them on campus?

Why do we pass the girl that just dropped her books and figure someone else will help her?

Why do we get from the table at dinner and throw our dishes in the sink?

Why don't we read another book to a child when he asks?

Why don't we say "I love you" when talking to family or a friend?

I apologize for using "we" in these scenarios. If you find that you are not guilty of any of them, let me just say to you, wow! Congratulations! The world needs more people like you!

For those, like me, that find themselves guilty of one or all of these, let me say that I guarantee in every scenario that small act of kindness, when rendered, is never tossed aside and forgotten...

The point is that the world we live in is full of people.
People more broken than you,
People more hungry than you,
People having a worse day than you,
People whose lives are falling apart,
People who need you!

Why then do we walk right by?

We are only human. Yes! Great! An excuse for selfish behavior...

That is not how it works!

I challenge you, and myself most of all, to look outside yourself for the person who needs you. There is always someone.

The world can't simply change by itself...
"You must be the change you want in the world."

We can change the world,
one wave, one smile, one helping hand at a time...
And I have a feeling we won't regret it!
