The Day a Hot Pocket Saved My Life

There I was, on the brink of popsiclization.

I had just run 7 miles in our brutal, but beautiful Spring temperatures of 30 degrees and was now waiting for the bus. Psh! And they call this Spring?!

Spandex and other such breathable fabrics are not a choice favorite under these particular types of weather conditions.

THEN, my sister - with whom I was talking on the phone - had the brilliant plan of buying something "heat up-able" from a nearby vending machine and heating it up in a nearby microwave. So I did. The least caloric (you know me) thing was a egg and sausage HotPocket, which I bought, heated up, and used as a hand warmer while I waited for the bus. Warmth was restored and goosebumps were reduced...till hunger overcame me. Then I was warm from the inside for about...2 minutes. Then the bitterly freezing winds picked up and I was freezing, yet again. But hey, I will never look at a box of Hot Pockets in quite the same way.

...I feel like this would make a really great episode of "I Shouldn't Be Alive".

Spring Breakin', Spring Broken

Spring Break officially has an hour left... which I'll partially spend writing this post and then sleeping. So, it's basically over.

Sad day.

The saddest part is that I spent the whole of Spring Break being sick... again... which really isn't much of a surprise, cause my immune system likes to crash during breaks as much as the next guy.

So, as much as I really would've liked to have goal-accomplishing energy for a school-free week, I can't say I blame my poor immune system. I'd be tired, too, if I had to rid my body of school germs, marathon training, etc. But, ya know? I think next time there's a break on the horizon, I'm not going to tell my immune system about it... just to be safe.

I don't mind so much that I spent the week sleeping and watching TV, but I would've at least liked to have cleaned my room, finished my other three batches of laundry, ran more than just 1 day and worked a little (lottle) harder on my design portfolio. Aw, phooey.

So, pretty much Marathon Training is going to eat me alive tomorrow morning. Especially cause we run no matter what the weather decides to do.

The Weather Man says Snow.

Yep.
I think Spring's broken.

Cookies, Carats, Creepers, & Capitals

I've moved from the fear of my niece having a boyfriend before I do
to the fear of my niece having a husband before I do.

It's just a small fear...
but it may or may not have manifest itself in my dream a couple nights ago...

My most recent fortune cookie says,
"You have great power that you are not utilizing."

So, I'm thinking, I'm about to discover that I have superpowers...
cause I really don't know what else it could be referring to.

So, don't be alarmed if I start wearing thick-rimmed glasses to hide my true identity and dashing suddenly into nearby phone booths.

- - -

Umm...so, is it unhealthy that the thought of watching The Biggest Loser gets me through my Tuesdays...? Cause...it does.

- - -

I told my sore throat,
"Uh-uh! I don't have time to be sick."
If only it was that easy.

Don't get sick, guys. It's not worth it.

- - -

I am seriously considering wearing a work badge that says,
"I'm 23! Keep walking, old man."

(shudder)

- - -

I'm currently addicted to this online

I wish I still did this kind of stuff in school. It's fun!

- - -

So...
Apparently it's really cold in Utah right now.
I was only outside for like...2 minutes total today, so I wouldn't know
EXCEPT for the fact that everyone and their dog (yes, why people put their dogs on Facebook is beyond me) is statusing about the temperature.

It doesn't help that I'm about to spend like 30 minutes straight out in the elements.

...suddenly I'm wishing I had brought a scarf today.

If I don't return...I'm probably a popsicle.

Wish me luck!
And stay warm, people!

White Christmas

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
But all I’ve got is lots of rain.
I miss the snowflakes falling
But I don’t miss my brakes stalling
Yet for a white day I won’t complain.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every sweater that I’ve got.
So, may some snowfall clear up this haze
And may all your final grades be A’s.

When Snow is Like School

Hoooo boy.

I knew today would be hard after that beautifully long weekend of family and holiday fabulousness...but I never could've anticipated how hard.

In short, I'm tired.

And sometimes, when I'm tired, I'm short...
...tempered that is.

Oh, and that to do list of stuff I had for this weekend?
Not done.
Heh heh.

It snowed quite a bit this week, which phenomenon I love. I have never lived in a warm tropical climate before (Northern Utah's about as far from palm trees as I've ever seen), but I imagine that I'd cry when December 25th rolled around without a healthy heap of Mother Nature's Christmas confetti. Sad day indeed.

This morning however, I was not feeling so lovey dovey toward the wet cold stuff.

In fact, my Facebook status right now reads:
"Snow is like School: It's great in theory, but you still have to drive through it ;)"

But you know what? I think I'll be ok.
Happiness is a choice made significantly easier by counting ones blessings.

Here's the biggest "for instance" I can think of:

I'm going HERE on Friday!
Ah. Yep, that makes everything better.

I might just need to carry this picture with me everywhere I go this week to instantly transform my gloominess into ecstaticness. Yes, I think I shall!

Latelies

I haven't been great at updating lately, so...

Remember THIS shoot? I needed a couple more pictures of the antiques by themselves for my project, so I did this shoot. I love reflective objects. That sounds strange, but they're my favorite kind of object to "capture"...Exhibit A.

Madre was emptying out our ghost soap dispenser from Halloween into our high-tech automatic everyday soap dispensers. I did a double take after seeing it, then I laughed, then I took a picture. Hahahahaha! How could I resist?

My lovely/handsome N&Ns all came over for FHE and let me take portraits of them. This pic is just for fun, but I bet you can't tell who's NOT a sibling.

We had raspberry cheesecake for Madre's birthday. Yes, I caved.
Don't I always when it comes to cheesecake? YUM!

My sister Heather is enjoying her new handsome witto baby.
And, holy adorableness, I am too!

My 'nother sister, Kim and I went on a shopping spree and hung out for the weekend. Always a good time! Isn't she stylin'? :)

And, her kids have beautiful eyes...

...and they can fly!
Ok, I have to tell you this touching story: As I turned the corner onto their street I saw 5 little specks at the bottom of the street jump up and down and start running up the street toward me. Those specks were her kids, running to see their Aunt Lindsay.
I think my heart nearly burst open at the seams with love! Thankfully it's still in tact.

I feel for the person that has to ride this home.

Insert angelic choir here:

Nicole and I struttin' our stuff for the midnight showing, Potter style!

Ah, the last moments of Fall. I saw these three trees on campus and had to get a picture of their unnaturally perfect gradation, i.e. orange, yellow, green. Love it!
(Trav, this is the picture I was telling you about)

Happy Wednesday, cute people!

Don't Mind If I Do

I’ve had the stinkin’ flu all week (fall break) and, on top of that, have been working on school work like a maniac… Thankfully, today seems to be the last day of the flu and tomorrow the hardwork will pay off when I step off the plane in sunny Orlando, Florida! I wish I could take you all with me! I’ll post pictures and updates :D Harry Potter, here I come!

Happy Friday!

Pristine Patio

Yesterday, Madre and I went cleaning crazy all over the not-so-pleasant patio. It was surprisingly exhilarating and we got SO MUCH done...not to mention, SO MANY allergies! Blah. It's still not “picture perfect,” but I think it's absolutely perfect for barbecuing and that's just what we did! I love eating outside during the summer!

YAY for BBQ SEASON!

My 3rd Eye - Day 27: Splash!

My friend Jamestown USA (world's most awesome nickname) hostessed a pool party this weekend.

Twas a blast! I love SUMMER!

My 3rd Eye - Day 25: June is bustin' out!

If you don't know that song (“June is Busting Out All Over” from Carousel), you should probably culture yourself here (sorry the music & video aren't in sync).

Gotta love those good ol' musical dance sequences, eh? I do!

Speaking of musicals, I just realized the last two titles of my photos posts have been from musicals (“Never Fully Dressed” from Annie). I guess that's because June makes me want to burst into song and dance spontaneously.

Love. This. Weather.

"AAAHHHHH!!" (picture this sung like an opera diva)

You know it's going to be a long day when...

...there's a picture of a snowman in your Gmail, Bus Stop themed, weather forecast...

...and it's almost June.

H-OH boy.

Don't Panic

It's just snow.

"A major storm system is forecast to hit the Wasatch Front around 2:30 pm this afternoon. Ahead of the front, mild very gusty southerly winds will be followed by high west to northwest winds and a quick changeover from rain to snow. There is the possibility for isolated thundershowers and microburst winds. As the front moves eastward, cold air and a lot of moisture will bank up against the Wasatch Mountains and the cold air will move over the relatively warm waters of the Great Salt Lake. The bulls eye for greatest snowfall will be Davis and Salt Lake County (with the Bench areas possibly receiving up to or even over 12 inches by Tuesday afternoon. This is a serious winter storm that will disrupt travel through the mountains and cause near blizzard conditions over mountain passes, and finally it will be a morning commute problem for the Wasatch Front on Tuesday. By the middle and end of the week, expect a warm up and a drying trend. We'll actually see temperatures over 60 degrees by Friday!"

This is Utah after all.

Slipping

I woke up this morning and looked out the window,

A thin blanket of fresh snow had fallen while I slept.

It was dark outside and difficult to pull myself from my warm blankets,

But eventually I found myself looking at my reflection in the bathroom mirror

Tiredly doing my hair and makeup for church, as if on auto-pilot.

I decided to leave 5 minutes earlier that usual,

On account of the sleet that was now pouring from the sky

Freezing itself unpleasantly to its fallen brother.

By the time I reached the freeway, that decision proved to be a good one.

If the weather wasn't enough of a contributor to the slow traffic, construction made up for it.

The heater began to thaw my fingers and toes

As I waited in a cattle-like herd of snow-covered cars exiting the freeway.

Eventually, I was making my way through my regular route to church.

Suddenly, down the hill I saw traffic cones positioned between the lanes

And crowds of people making their slippery way across the crosswalk toward the Conference Center:

The Sunday morning MoTab Christmas Concert.

In a desire to avoid the sluggish mass, I turned to make a detour.

I patted the dashboard of my Civic encouragingly as we began the precarious ascension up our ever-inclining path.

A minivan made its way toward me on the slippery, narrow road.

I stopped. And waited for it to pass.

When finally the road was clear of oncoming traffic, I pressed lightly on the gas to continue the climb,

The tires spun forward, but slipped helplessly on the icy road, despite my continual prodding of the pedal,

And I began to make my way back down the hill. Backwards.

Thankfully, the brake overcame the slick ice and obeyed the quick shove of my high-heeled foot.

I stopped.

Then, I attempted to prod the gas pedal once more, but backward, down the hill I slid.

People stared. People passed.

A swift Jeep with four-wheel drive inched by with detestable ease.

I prayed a small, desperate, but hopeful prayer for safety

As the sleet tapped the windshield and dripped down its glistening surface.

Then, I reversed

And I turned around,

This time going back down the hill on purpose. Grateful to be in control again...

No.

Grateful to be watched over and guided by He who has all control.

As much as I think I would like to avoid the "sluggish masses" that inevitably find their way into my life,

I am grateful for the guidance and perspective of a Father in Heaven who willingly guides my course,

Who catches me when I slip.

I have never regretted following Him, even when it's hard or when I'm feeling impatient,

Because the blessings He lovingly bestows always far outweigh the struggles and the disappointment.

Drive safely, everybody!
